Black Friday travel deals 2026: buy the bag in November, book the trip on Tuesday

Black Friday is two different sales wearing one name. Gear and luggage on Amazon really do drop, and last year the established brands dropped hardest. Flights and hotels are a different market, and the travel industry’s own data says the best day for them is not Friday at all.

So this page splits the decision in two: which suitcase or tracker to buy and how to tell a real cut from a staged one, then whether to book a flight or hotel on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or Travel Tuesday. Skip this page if you need a bag before your trip in October: buy it now, or during Prime Big Deal Days, rather than waiting eight weeks for a discount nobody has announced yet.

VoyageHacks compared the manufacturers’ published specifications of five carry-on cases and trackers with three independent reviews (CNN Underscored, Wirecutter and The Points Guy) and CNN Underscored’s record of last year’s Black Friday prices, on 2 October 2026. Nothing here was bench-tested, and no price appears because Amazon’s live price on the card is the only one that counts.

Samsonite Freeform: the brand that cut deepest

The Samsonite Freeform is a 6.5 lb polypropylene spinner with a TSA combination lock and a 10-year limited warranty. CNN Underscored named it its best-tested budget hard-shell carry-on in its 28 November 2025 deals roundup, and the same piece recorded the Freeform two-piece set at 59% off, the deepest luggage cut on its list.

Buy it if you want a light hardside case and Samsonite repeats last year’s pattern. Skip it if you fly American, United or Delta often: at 23 in tall it is over the 22 in those carriers publish. The alternative is the shorter Amazon Basics below.

Amazon Basics 21 in Hardside Spinner: the deal that matters least

The Amazon Basics spinner is 14.8 x 10 x 21.7 in, 7.7 lb, ABS, and expands by up to 25%. The Points Guy’s review by Carissa Rawson (November 2019) found it still scuff-free and solid after about 10 trips. CNN Underscored’s 2025 list shows the line’s Black Friday cut at about 24%, the smallest of any luggage brand it tracked.

That is not a weakness. A low everyday price leaves no room for a dramatic markdown, so you lose little by buying it whenever you need it. Buy it if you want the cheapest reliable first suitcase. Skip it if you want a lock: Amazon’s listing states none, so add a TSA luggage lock or choose the Samsonite.

Travelpro Maxlite 5: the lightest case worth waiting for

The Travelpro Maxlite 5 is a softside spinner at 5.4 lb with 46 litres inside, per Travelpro’s published specification. Wirecutter, in its carry-on guide updated 17 July 2026, made it the budget pick and called it one of the lightest bags it has tested. Its warranty covers airline damage for the first year only, per the same review.

CNN Underscored did not list a Maxlite 5 price last November, but it recorded Travelpro’s Platinum Elite at a two-year low. Buy it if lifting a bag into an overhead bin is the hard part of flying. Skip it if you want airline-damage cover for life; Wirecutter’s top pick, the Travelpro Platinum Elite, has it.

Away The Bigger Carry-On: buy it only in a sale window

The Away Bigger Carry-On is a 22.7 x 15.4 x 9.6 in polycarbonate spinner with a TSA lock and a compression panel. Wirecutter lists it as a top pick for 2026, with the warning that you may be gate-checked on smaller planes. CNN Underscored’s travel editor took it on multiple trips and recorded it at 25% off for Black Friday 2025.

One change matters before you buy: Wirecutter reports that Away cut its warranty from lifetime to five years for luggage bought on or after 14 April 2026. Buy it if you want a premium hardside look and a real discount. Skip it if you fly mostly in 22 x 14 x 9 in cabins; the Samsonite Freeform is smaller and lighter.

Apple AirTag 4-pack: the reliable small deal

The AirTag (2nd generation) is 31.9 mm across, 11.8 g, IP67, with a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell. CNN Underscored called AirTags the most reliable way to track bags and keys in its Black Friday 2025 roundup, and recorded the single tag at 38% off. What independent reviewers found

What really dropped on Black Friday 2025

The established luggage brands discounted hardest. CNN Underscored’s travel products editor described last year’s luggage discounts as “among the biggest we’ve seen”, and the 28 November 2025 roundup put numbers on it:

These are CNN’s 2025 observations, not a 2026 promise. Two patterns are worth carrying into this year: the brand’s own website sometimes beats Amazon (Delsey did), and budget lines drop less because they have less to drop. The 30-day rule: how to spot a fake Black Friday discount

A real discount beats the lowest price of the previous 30 days. A list price, or “was” price, is the number a seller crosses out, and it is only meaningful if the item actually sold at it recently.

• Use Amazon’s own tool. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days 2026 announcement says the Price History link on product pages shows up to 365 days of prices. Open it and look at the last 30 days, not the badge.
• The EU already makes it law. Article 6a of Directive 98/6/EC, as the European Commission’s guidance explains, requires any announced price reduction to show the prior price, defined as the lowest price in at least the 30 days before the reduction. The EU Court of Justice ruled on 26 September 2024 (case C-330/23) that the advertised percentage must be calculated from that price.
• The US rule is looser. The FTC’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing (16 CFR Part 233) say a former price must be one the item was openly offered at in good faith for a reasonably substantial period, but set no fixed number of days.

Distrust three kinds of deals: a percentage badge on a list price nobody paid, a “lightning” countdown on a product whose 30-day history is flat, and a bundle where only the add-on is discounted. VoyageHacks counts a deal as real only if it beats the 30-day low.

Flights: Black Friday, Cyber Monday or Travel Tuesday?

For airfare, wait for Tuesday unless your airline has already announced a sale on your route. Travel Tuesday is the Tuesday after Cyber Monday, which in 2026 is 1 December. Hopper created it as Travel Deal Tuesday in 2017, saying its own historical pricing data showed that Tuesday was the biggest day for post-Thanksgiving travel discounts.

The 2025 edition, on 2 December, was its ninth year. Hopper reports it drove about three times as many trip bookings as Black Friday and about twice as many as Cyber Monday, with more deals than both days combined. Those are Hopper’s own figures about its own sale, so read them as a strong signal rather than an independent audit.

Airlines still run named Black Friday sales. What three of them offered in 2025, as history rather than a forecast:

Hotels: Booking.com’s Black Friday history and the deal that is live now

Booking.com runs a Black Friday campaign, but it announces it late. In 2025 it published the campaign on 11 November and ran it from 20 November to 3 December, for stays through 31 December 2026. Booking.com listed six ways to save:

• Accommodation: up to 40% off
• Car rentals: up to 25% off
• Attractions: up to 20% off
• Airport transfers: 20% off
• Flights: up to 15% off
• Cruises: up to $2,000 onboard credit

As of 2 October 2026, no 2026 Black Friday campaign has been announced. The live offer is Late Escape Deals: 15% or more off end-of-year stays at participating properties, until 7 January 2027. If your trip falls before early January, that discount is available today; watch for Booking.com’s dedicated Black Friday refresh closer to 27 November.

Edge cases and what goes wrong

• Sale fares come with travel windows. easyJet’s 2025 fares were valid only from 5 December to 22 March, so check your dates before you assume a headline fare applies.
• Base fare is not the total. Wizz Air’s 30% applied to the base fare only, and Southwest’s discount was applied before taxes and fees.
• Participating properties only. Booking.com’s Late Escape Deals apply to participating hotels, not every listing.
• Amazon has not set its 2026 dates. As of 2 October 2026, Amazon had not announced its Black Friday window, so 27 and 30 November are calendar dates, not a confirmed Amazon schedule.
• Warranty changes outlast discounts. Away’s move from a lifetime warranty to five years for bags bought from 14 April 2026 matters more over a case’s life than 25% off.
• Sizes do not change in a sale. A cheap case that is over your airline’s cabin box costs you a checked-bag fee on every trip.

Does Booking.com have a Black Friday sale?

It did in 2025: Booking.com ran Black Friday deals from 20 November to 3 December 2025 with up to 40% off accommodation, for stays through 31 December 2026. As of 2 October 2026 its live campaign is Late Escape Deals, 15% off or more on end-of-year stays at participating properties until 7 January 2027, and no 2026 Black Friday campaign has been announced yet.

How do I know if a Black Friday deal is real?

Compare the sale price with the lowest price of the previous 30 days, not with the crossed-out list price. Amazon’s own Price History link on a product page shows up to 365 days of prices, and EU law already requires sellers to quote that 30-day lowest price as the reference for any announced discount. VoyageHacks treats a deal as real only if it beats that 30-day low.

The bottom line

Buy luggage on Black Friday if it is a Samsonite, SwissGear, Travelpro or Away and the price beats its own 30-day low; buy an Amazon Basics case whenever you need one. Hold flight bookings for Travel Tuesday on 1 December unless your airline’s sale already covers your dates, and use Booking.com’s Late Escape Deals now for stays before 7 January.
