Doha is Qatar’s capital and the home of Hamad International Airport, a compact city on a curving bay with a 7 km waterfront Corniche, two world-class museums and a rebuilt old market at its heart. Most visitors come for a long weekend or a stopover on the way somewhere else, and both work well in winter. Prices and dates below were checked on 9 October 2026; our Qatar country guide covers entry rules and the rest of the peninsula.

Figures are the Qatar Meteorology Department’s long-term averages for Doha, published on the WMO World Weather Information Service. Winter is the season: warm days, a light layer at night in January, and almost no rain. Two motorsport weekends push up hotel prices in 2026, the MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar on 6 to 8 November and the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix on 27 to 29 November. Summer is quiet and cheaper, but the afternoon heat confines sightseeing to museums, malls and the metro.

How do you get to and around Doha?

From the airport. Hamad International Airport has its own Doha Metro station on the Red Line. Ride five stops to Msheireb in central Doha, where all three metro lines meet, and change there to the Gold Line for Souq Waqif or the National Museum. Visit Qatar puts the average hop between stations at about 3 minutes. Karwa taxis, run by the state transport company Mowasalat, leave from the Taxi Pavilion at the left end of the arrivals hall; they take MasterCard, Visa, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and the airport advises using only that official rank.

Doha Metro. Three driverless lines, Red, Green and Gold, cover about 76 km. A day of standard travel costs at most QAR 6, there is a pricier Goldclub carriage, children under 5 ride free, and trains come about every 6 minutes. The metro closes on Friday mornings for prayers. The Msheireb Tram downtown is free, and the Lusail Tram uses the same travel card as the metro.
