- Families and pools: Faliraki, about 20 minutes south, around 40 to 165 euros.
- Windsurfing and early flights: Ialysos and Ixia on the west coast, around 55 to 140 euros.

- Add the climate resilience fee: about 2 to 15 euros per room per night, by star rating.
Where to Stay in Rhodes: Town or Beach?
Rhodes is a big island, around 80 km from top to bottom, and most first-timers underestimate the distances. A resort that looks “near Lindos” on a package site can be a 20-minute drive from the village, and a Faliraki pool hotel puts the Old Town 20 minutes away by road.
So decide what the trip is for. History and evenings out point to Rhodes Town. A postcard village points to Lindos. Pools and sand point to Faliraki. Wind, sport and a short airport transfer point to Ialysos and Ixia.
VoyageHacks checked every hotel below against current listings on 25 October 2026. Prices are the nightly rates HotelsCombined showed when its Rhodes data was last updated (22 to 23 October 2026), plus Kayak for Kokkini Porta Rossa, rounded to the nearest 5 euros. They are end-of-season prices: expect July and August rates to be considerably higher, and check your own dates.

The Old Town: Best for History
The medieval Old Town of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a walled city of cobbled lanes around the Palace of the Grand Master and the Street of the Knights. It is car-free, so taxis stop at the gates and you wheel your bag over the stones. Sleeping inside means having the lanes to yourself once the cruise passengers leave in the evening.
- Spot Hotel (21 Perikleous Street): a small, simple hotel with a rooftop terrace, a few minutes’ walk from the port, around 60 to 140 euros a night depending on the season.
- S. Nikolis Historic Boutique (61 Hippodamou Street): a restored historic house, around 140 euros a night in late October.
- Kokkini Porta Rossa (24 Archiepiskopou Efthimiou): a 5-star boutique hotel with just six rooms, from around 500 euros a night on Kayak. One listing gives a seasonal closure from 1 November to 31 March.
Who it suits: history lovers, couples, anyone who wants to walk to dinner. The catch: stairs, cobbles and no lifts in many old houses, and the main lanes are crowded on cruise days.
Rhodes New Town: Best for Convenience
Rhodes New Town spreads north of the Old Town walls to the tip of the island, with Mandraki harbour, the town beach of Elli, shops and the bus stations. It is the most practical base without a car: the Old Town is a short walk, and KTEL buses run down the east coast to Faliraki and Lindos.
- Lydia Hotel (31 25th Martiou Street): the budget option, around 70 euros a night.
- Mediterranean Hotel (35 Kos Street): a 4-star by the town beach, around 80 euros a night in late October.
- Rodos Park (12 Riga Fereou Street): a 5-star member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World just outside the Old Town walls, around 170 euros a night. Its pool opens April to October.
Who it suits: first-timers without a car, short stays, winter visitors. The catch: it is a working town, with traffic and noise on the main streets.
Ialysos and Ixia: Best for Wind and Early Flights
Ialysos and Ixia line the west coast, roughly 8 km southwest of Rhodes Town on the road to the airport. The beaches are pebbly and the steady wind makes them a windsurfing and kitesurfing coast, with big resort hotels along the shore.
- Belair Beach Hotel (Ialyssos Avenue): a 4-star, around 55 euros a night in late October.
- D'Andrea Mare Beach Hotel : a 4-star on the Ialysos beachfront, around 140 euros a night.
- The Ixian Grand & All Suites (Ixia beach): a 5-star, around 140 euros a night. Sheraton Rhodes Resort (around 120 euros) is the alternative.
Who it suits: windsurfers, travellers with early or late flights, anyone who wants a resort near town. The catch: the wind that suits sailors makes calm swimming days rarer than on the east coast.
Faliraki: Best for Families
Faliraki is the big resort strip on the east coast, about 20 minutes’ drive south of Rhodes Town, with a long sandy beach and Anthony Quinn Bay nearby. KTEL buses connect it with town.
- Rhodian Rose Hotel (Athinodorou Street): a 3-star budget pick, around 40 euros a night in late October.
- Cyprotel Faliraki : a 4-star resort, around 100 euros a night.
- Mitsis Faliraki : a 5-star resort, around 145 euros a night. Esperides Beach Resort (around 165 euros) is the alternative.
Who it suits: families, pool-and-beach holidays, groups. The catch: HotelsCombined puts Faliraki’s July average around 345 euros a night, many resorts are sold as packages, and a lot of them close for winter.
Lindos: Best for the Postcard
Lindos is the whitewashed village under the Acropolis of Lindos, about an hour’s drive south of Rhodes Town. Day-trip coaches fill it from mid-morning, so staying overnight gives you the lanes early and late, and the first timed entry to the acropolis (20 euros on the official Hellenic Heritage ticket store).
- Lindos View Hotel : a 4-star about 0.4 km from the village centre, around 85 euros a night in late October.
- Lindos Sun : a 4-star about 1.3 km out, around 100 euros a night.
- Lindos Blu Luxury Hotel & Suites : an adults-only 5-star on the Rhodes to Lindos road above Vlicha Bay, around 290 euros a night.
Who it suits: couples, photographers, a one or two-night stop. The catch: the village is car-free and steep, and summer is expensive: HotelsCombined’s July average for Lindos (villas included) tops 1,000 euros a night.
How to Choose (and Book Smart)
The when-to-go and ticket details are in the Rhodes travel guide, and the Greek ferries guide covers getting here by sea: at least 15 hours 40 minutes from Piraeus on Blue Star Ferries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the best place to stay in Rhodes for the first time?
Stay in or beside the medieval Old Town of Rhodes Town. You can walk the UNESCO-listed lanes at night, reach the KTEL buses for Faliraki and Lindos, and the airport is about 14 km away. In late October 2026 listings, Spot Hotel inside the walls ran around 60 to 140 euros a night, S. Nikolis Historic Boutique around 140 euros and Rodos Park, just outside the walls, around 170 euros.
Is it better to stay in Lindos or Rhodes Town?
Stay in Rhodes Town for the most hotels, the most restaurants open year round and bus links to the whole east coast. Stay in Lindos for a night or two under the acropolis, when the day-trip crowds have gone. Lindos is about an hour’s drive south, car-free, steep and pricier in summer, so most visitors base in town and visit Lindos for a day.
What is the best area in Rhodes for families?
Faliraki, about 20 minutes’ drive south of Rhodes Town, is the family pick: a long sandy beach and large resorts with pools. In late October 2026 listings, Rhodian Rose Hotel ran around 40 euros a night, Cyprotel Faliraki around 100 euros and Mitsis Faliraki around 145 euros. Summer rates are much higher, and many resorts sell packages rather than room-only rates.
Are Rhodes hotels open in winter?
Many are not. Lots of resort hotels in Lindos, Faliraki and Ixia close from about November to March, and Kokkini Porta Rossa in the Old Town lists a closure from 1 November to 31 March. Rhodes Town has the most hotels open in winter, but check the property’s own season dates before booking anything from November to March.
Do Rhodes hotels charge a tourist tax?
Yes. Greece charges a climate resilience fee per room, per night, paid at the hotel. Under the schedule in force since 2025, it runs from about 2 euros for 1 to 2-star hotels to 5 euros for 3-star, 10 euros for 4-star and 15 euros for 5-star hotels from April to October, with lower rates from November to March. Confirm the current amount with your hotel.
Book Your Rhodes Base
If a package has already fixed your resort, skip this and enjoy the pool. Everyone else should choose between the Old Town’s evenings and a beach base first, then compare June and September dates before July prices.
