Americas

North, Central and South America: iconic cities, coastlines and road trips.

The Americas run from Arctic to Patagonia, and the smart budget move is matching the region to the season: Mexico and Central America are at their best in the dry November to April window, South America’s Andean countries (Peru, Colombia, Argentina’s northwest) favor May to September, and Brazil’s coast works most of the year outside the March to June rains.

Costs vary as much as the geography. Mexico, Colombia and Peru remain the value anchors, with comfortable travel around 35 to 55 € a day; Costa Rica and Brazil’s beach hubs run noticeably higher; Argentina swings with its currency. Long-distance buses are the region’s budget backbone, comfortable enough to replace short flights on most routes.

Each country guide below covers the best months, realistic budgets, safety basics and the routes that link the highlights.
