VoyageHacks has not tested any of these restaurants; the selection is a calculation built on this public data.
The €150 restaurant credit: the short version
The restaurant credit is €150 of the €650 in annual credits that are supposed to make the Amex Platinum pay for itself. Anyone who doesn’t know which restaurants in their city take part just lets it expire.
How the restaurant credit works (per the offer terms)
- Activate: the primary cardholder activates the offer in Amex Offers (app or online card account).
- Reserve: book a table directly with the restaurant. The Amex list links to each restaurant’s own booking page.
- Pay with the primary card: directly at the restaurant, not via PayPal, SumUp or the hotel bill.
- Wait for the credit: Amex credits the amount up to the €150 cap on the card statement.
Two terms that come up in the tables below:
- MICHELIN stars are awarded by the Guide MICHELIN for the cooking: one star for cuisine full of finesse, two for outstanding cuisine, three for exceptional cuisine.
- The MICHELIN price category runs from € (budget) to €€€€ (upscale). It describes the restaurant’s price level, not a fixed amount.

Selected from the 156 German entries: restaurants with a MICHELIN star or Guide entry, plus restaurants with at least 4.3 Google stars from a substantial number of reviews. Venues that are mainly nightlife spots are not included in this selection.

The most common mistake: paying with a supplementary card. Under the offer terms, the credit only applies to the Platinum primary card, even if a partner sits at the same table with their own Platinum supplementary card.
The second most common: charging the bill to the room in a hotel restaurant. Then the hotel bills it, not the restaurant, and the credit doesn’t apply.
The restaurant credit abroad
Besides Germany, the Amex list covers restaurants in Austria, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. The credit is one shared pool: €150 a year, no matter which country you spend it in. Outside the eurozone, a 2% foreign transaction fee applies on top, which Amex does not refund.
Is the Platinum worth it just for the restaurant credit?
No, not on its own. €150 in restaurant credit is a fifth of the €720 annual fee. The math only works out if you also use the travel, SIXT ride and LODENFREY credits and need the lounges. Does the restaurant credit also apply to supplementary cards or delivery services?
No. Under the offer terms, only payments with the Platinum primary card count, not supplementary cards or Plus Cards. Also excluded are vouchers, deposits, cancellation and no-show fees, pickup and delivery, and payments made via PayPal or SumUp. In hotel restaurants, the bill must be paid directly at the restaurant, not charged to the room.
Can I use the Amex Platinum restaurant credit abroad?
Yes. The €150 applies to participating restaurants in Germany and abroad, for example in Austria, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and Australia. The 2% foreign transaction fee is not refunded, though, because the offer terms explicitly exclude foreign transaction fees.
