Quick Answer
As of September 14, 2026. Statuses and benefits come from American Express Germany’s Platinum and hotel status articles (sources below). The hotel chains themselves grant the benefits; they apply “subject to availability” and can change.
All 6 hotel statuses at a glance
| Program | Status with Platinum | Key benefits per Amex | Normally required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hilton Honors | Gold | 80% bonus on base points, room upgrade subject to availability, daily credit or breakfast, 5th reward night free | not stated by Amex |
| Marriott Bonvoy | Gold Elite | 25% bonus points, late check-out until 2 p.m., 250 or 500 welcome points | “only from 25 nights” |
| ALL Accor | Gold | guaranteed room availability up to 3 days before arrival, points bonus | “30 nights or 7,000 status points” |
| MeliáRewards | Gold | late check-out until 4 p.m. (city) or 2 p.m. (resort), 2,000 welcome points, breakfast for one companion on a room-only rate | not stated by Amex |
| Radisson Rewards | Premium | triple points or up to 20% off, room upgrade subject to availability | not stated by Amex |
| GHA DISCOVERY | Platinum | upgrade, late check-out until 3 p.m., 6% DISCOVERY Dollars | not stated by Amex |
Two terms first:
- Hotel status is a tier in a hotel chain’s loyalty program. Book enough nights and you move up, earning upgrades, later check-out or more points. The Platinum skips those nights for you.
- “Subject to availability” means the hotel only grants the perk if a room or a later departure time is actually free that day. You have no entitlement to it.
A note on accuracy: American Express names the Radisson status “Premium” twice and “Platinum” once. VoyageHacks uses “Premium,” since it’s the more frequent spelling and the one used in the Platinum article.
How to activate hotel status in 3 steps
Per American Express, it works the same way for every program:
- Register with the hotel program, for example free with Hilton Honors.
- Log into your online American Express account.
- Sign up with the hotel’s membership number for the card benefit.
A typical stumbling block: Amex states that “your full name and email address” must be “on file and match” in both the Amex account and the hotel account. A middle name in one account and not the other is enough to make it fail.
Tip: activate all six programs on day one, even the ones you don’t plan to use. It takes ten minutes, and you’ll have the status if a booking ends up there anyway.
Which status is most useful for travelers from Germany?
This ranking is based on the benefits above and on where the chains have a strong presence in Europe.
- Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite: the most tangible perk is late check-out until 2 p.m., especially useful before an evening flight.
- Hilton Honors Gold: strong for city trips; the daily credit or breakfast saves money every single night.
- ALL Accor Gold: Accor has many hotels in Germany, from ibis to Novotel and Sofitel. The room guarantee up to 3 days before arrival helps around trade fairs.
- MeliáRewards Gold: useful for Spain and Mediterranean trips, thanks to breakfast for a companion.
- Radisson Premium and GHA Platinum: nice to have, rarely the reason to book.
Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection
These aren’t statuses; they’re American Express booking programs. According to Amex, “more than 3,000 selected hotels” offer perks like these:
| Benefit | Per Amex |
|---|---|
| Room upgrade | on arrival, subject to availability |
| Breakfast | daily, free for two people |
| Hotel credit | $100 for on-property spending |
| Early check-in | from noon |
| Late check-out | until 4 p.m. |
| Wi-Fi | free in the room |
American Express Germany lists these benefits for both programs together and doesn’t separate which perk belongs to which program. The Gold Card gets, per Amex, hotel benefits through The Hotel Collection; Fine Hotels + Resorts is Platinum-only.
Rental car status: Avis, Hertz, SIXT
| Provider | Status | Benefits per Amex |
|---|---|---|
| Avis | President’s Club | upgrade one category, up to 15% off, free additional driver (partner) |
| Hertz | Five Star | upgrade one category, 25% more Gold Plus Rewards points, up to 15% off |
| SIXT | ONE Platinum | upgrade one group, up to 15% off, access to VIP counters |
Deadline of 12/31/2026: per American Express, existing customers already using SIXT ONE Platinum must “re-register once via the Amex Experiences App” by December 31, 2026. The same applies to the SIXT ride credit. Miss it, and you lose the benefit.
What the status is really worth
American Express’s own marketing puts the “total value of up to €2,280” a year on the Platinum, of which €650 is fixed credits and up to €1,630 is “travel benefits” from assumed hotel nights and rental car days. That €1,630 is Amex’s own assumption, not money in your account.
The more honest calculation is your own: how many nights a year do you actually book at Hilton, Marriott or Accor? Does a hotel breakfast for two or a 2 p.m. check-out matter to you? If you have fewer than five hotel nights a year, don’t buy the Platinum for the status alone. The full math with credits and lounges is in the Amex Platinum review, the lounge rules in the guide Platinum Lounges.

Frequently Asked Questions
What hotel status do you get with the Amex Platinum?
Six statuses, per American Express Germany: Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, ALL Accor Gold, MeliáRewards Gold, Radisson Rewards Premium and GHA DISCOVERY Platinum. You get them with no nights required, but you have to register with each program individually. The statuses also apply to the Platinum supplementary card. As of September 14, 2026.
How do I activate the Amex Platinum’s hotel status?
In three steps: register free with the hotel program, log into your online American Express account, and sign up there with the hotel program’s membership number for the card benefit. Your full name and email address must match between your Amex account and the hotel account, or the registration fails.
What does Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite give you with the Amex Platinum?
Per American Express, 25% bonus points, late check-out until 2 p.m. subject to availability, and 250 or 500 bonus points on arrival depending on the hotel. Normally, per Amex, guests only reach this status after 25 nights a year.
What’s the difference between hotel status and Fine Hotels + Resorts?
Hotel status applies to every booking at that hotel chain once you’ve registered. Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection are American Express booking programs covering over 3,000 selected hotels, where Amex lists perks like breakfast for two, $100 in hotel credit, check-in from noon and late check-out until 4 p.m.
What rental car status does the Amex Platinum have?
Three: Avis President’s Club, Hertz Five Star and SIXT ONE Platinum, each with an upgrade of one vehicle category subject to availability and up to 15% off. Existing SIXT ONE Platinum customers must, per Amex, re-register once via the Amex Experiences App by 12/31/2026, or the benefit lapses.
Does the Amex Gold also have hotel status?
Not with Hilton or Marriott. American Express lists hotel benefits for the Gold Card through The Hotel Collection program. Fine Hotels + Resorts and the six hotel statuses in the table above are Platinum-only.
Verdict
Six hotel statuses and three rental car statuses are the most underrated part of the Platinum, but only if you activate them and actually book those chains. If you stay in hotels often, breakfast, upgrades and late check-out add up to several hundred euros a year fast. You can apply for the Platinum through my referral link for up to 85,000 points; whether it fits you is covered in the Amex card comparison for Germany.
