Quick Answer

The Platinum Card issued in Germany costs €720 a year and pays back four annual credits worth €650 combined: a €200 online travel credit, a €150 restaurant credit, a €200 SIXT ride credit and a €100 LODENFREY shopping credit. Fully used, the card costs you a net €70 a year. But each credit has its own rules. The travel credit only covers a single booking of at least €200 on americanexpress.de/reisen and is forfeited on cancellation. SIXT ride pays €25 per ride, up to eight times within 12 months of registering in the Amex Experiences App. The restaurant credit runs from January 7 to December 31, and LODENFREY splits into two halves of €50 each. The restaurant and LODENFREY credits only work with the primary card. Let two of the four credits lapse and you’re quickly paying a net €300 or more. So activate every credit right after your card arrives.

Amex also advertises a total value of up to €2,280 a year. Alongside the €650 in credits, that includes up to €1,630 in further travel benefits based on a sample calculation with assumed travel habits. The six Lounge on the Go vouchers worth €20 each (October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, Frankfurt and Munich) don’t count toward the €650.

€200 online travel credit: one booking, no cancellation

The travel credit covers flights, hotels and rental cars you book and pay for online at americanexpress.de/reisen. The terms don’t mention package tours. Four rules decide whether the €200 reaches you:

  1. At least €200 per booking. Below that amount, the credit isn’t even shown.
  2. A single booking. You can’t split the €200 across two hotels.
  3. No changes, no cancellation. Changing or canceling the booking forfeits the credit, so book a trip that’s actually happening.
  4. Membership year, not calendar year. The credit runs from the day the card was issued to the next anniversary and doesn’t carry over.

Amex charges the full travel price first and credits the €200 back within 48 to 72 hours. You can combine the credit with card payment and Membership Rewards points. Cancel the card within the first 12 months and Amex claws the €200 back. More on the portal itself, on Fine Hotels + Resorts and on The Hotel Collection is in our Amex Travel guide.

The catch: a hotel that costs €30 more on Amex Travel than booking direct eats into part of the credit. Compare the price before you book.

€150 restaurant credit

The restaurant credit is a single pot for the whole year, from January 7 to December 31, not two halves. You activate it once in Amex Offers and pay at a participating restaurant with the Platinum primary card. Supplementary cards, delivery and pickup services, vouchers and deposits don’t count. Which restaurants take part, and where the €150 goes furthest, is covered in our full breakdown of German Amex restaurants: Amex Platinum restaurant credit.

€200 SIXT ride credit: 8 x €25

The ride credit covers airport transfers and chauffeur rides with SIXT ride in over 250 cities worldwide. Here’s how it works:

  • Register: once, with an email address, in the Amex Experiences App.
  • Book: through your SIXT account using that same email address. Chauffeur rides need at least an hour of lead time.
  • Credit: €25 per ride, no matter the price or currency. If the ride costs €18, €7 is forfeited.
  • Deadline: 12 months from registration. Whatever’s left after that is forfeited.
  • Cancellation: if a ride is canceled free of charge, you get the €25 back.

The catch: eight short city rides use up the credit just as fast as eight airport transfers. Save the credits for the expensive rides.

€100 LODENFREY shopping credit

You get up to €50 back per half-year on purchases at lodenfrey.com or in the Munich store, running from January 6 to June 30 and from July 1 to December 31 in 2026. You activate the offer once in Amex Offers, and it then continues automatically. Supplementary cards, phone orders, the outlet and some shop-in-shops are excluded, and online it only applies to shipping within Germany. The credit usually lands within 30 days.

On the €200 rule: several travel blogs report that LODENFREY will require a minimum purchase of €200 from October 1, 2026. As of September 24, 2026, the official offer terms did not say so. We’ll update this page as soon as Amex changes the terms.

What the Platinum actually costs you

You useCreditsNet cost at a €720 fee
all four credits in full€650€70
travel, restaurant, SIXT ride€550€170
travel and restaurant€350€370
restaurant only€150€570

This math only counts the credits. Lounges, hotel status and insurance come on top, but only have value if you actually need them. Our Platinum review runs the numbers on the whole card, and the Platinum vs. Gold comparison shows when the cheaper Gold (€240 a year, €430 in credits) is the better pick.

Your credit checklist for the year

  1. Right after the card arrives: activate the restaurant and LODENFREY credits in Amex Offers, and register for SIXT ride in the Amex Experiences App.
  2. Before the card’s anniversary: redeem the travel credit on a firm trip of at least €200.
  3. Before June 30 and December 31: shop once at LODENFREY each time.
  4. Before December 31: use up the rest of the restaurant credit.
  5. Before the 12-month SIXT ride window closes: spend any remaining ride credit on airport transfers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What credits does the Amex Platinum have?

The Platinum Card issued in Germany has four annual credits worth €650 combined: a €200 online travel credit on Amex Travel, a €150 restaurant credit, a €200 SIXT ride credit (8 x €25) and a €100 LODENFREY shopping credit (2 x €50). Since October 1, 2026, there are also six Lounge on the Go vouchers worth €20 each in Frankfurt and Munich, which Amex doesn’t count toward the €650.

How do I redeem the Amex Platinum’s €200 travel credit?

You book a flight, hotel or rental car online at americanexpress.de/reisen and pay with the Platinum Card. The booking has to cost at least €200, and the credit is used up in a single booking. Amex charges the full price first and credits the €200 back within 48 to 72 hours. Changing or canceling the booking forfeits the credit.

How does the Amex Platinum’s SIXT ride credit work?

You register once with an email address in the Amex Experiences App, then book airport transfers or chauffeur rides through your SIXT account using that same email address. Each ride is credited €25, up to eight times within 12 months of registration. If a ride costs less than €25, the remainder is forfeited.

Do I have to activate the Amex Platinum credits?

Partly. You activate the restaurant and LODENFREY credits once in Amex Offers, and the SIXT ride credit by registering in the Amex Experiences App. The offer terms don’t mention an activation step for the online travel credit: it simply appears once you log in at americanexpress.de/reisen.

Does LODENFREY require a €200 minimum purchase from October 2026?

As of September 24, 2026, the official offer terms did not say so. They still state that you get up to €50 back per half-year on any purchase, once you activate the offer in Amex Offers. Reports of a €200 minimum purchase starting October 1, 2026 have so far come only from travel blogs.

Is the Amex Platinum worth it because of the credits?

Only if you’d use at least three of the four credits anyway. The Platinum costs €720 a year, and the four credits are worth €650. Use all of them and you pay a net €70 for lounges, hotel status and insurance. Let the SIXT ride and LODENFREY credits lapse, for example, and you’re paying a net €370.
